Section 508 & WCAG 2.1 AA

Accessibility that holds up to scrutiny.

We audit, remediate, and document your website to WCAG 2.1 AA and Section 508 standards — so people can actually use it, and your organization can show its work.

Why it matters

Inaccessible sites cost you customers — and carry real risk.

Accessibility isn't just good practice. For many organizations it's a legal requirement and a condition of doing business.

ADA & legal exposure

Web-accessibility lawsuits and demand letters keep rising. An audit and a documented remediation plan are your best defense.

Section 508 mandates

Selling to government or working with agencies means conforming to Section 508 and providing a VPAT. No conformance, no contract.

Lost customers

Roughly 1 in 4 U.S. adults lives with a disability. If they can't navigate, read, or check out on your site, that's revenue walking away.

Why now

The deadlines are real — and remediation takes months.

Accessibility isn't a once-a-year filing, but the law now sets hard dates. A full audit and fix runs weeks to months — so the organizations that wait until the deadline are the ones that miss it.

How we work

A clear path from audit to conformance.

Audit

Automated scan plus hands-on manual testing — keyboard, screen reader, focus order, and reading flow.

Report

A prioritized findings report mapped to WCAG 2.1 AA success criteria — and a VPAT/ACR when you need one.

Remediate

We fix the issues in your code, or guide your team through them, with practical, standards-based solutions.

Verify

We re-test to confirm the fixes hold, and give you a maintenance plan so conformance doesn't drift over time.

Case study

We put our own site through the process.

Before we ask for your trust, here's the proof on our own homepage — measured with axe-core, the industry-standard automated testing engine.

What we changed

  • Raised text and link contrast to meet the WCAG 2.1 AA minimum ratio, in both light and dark themes.
  • Added a "skip to main content" link and a focusable main landmark for keyboard users.
  • Fixed focus management — the mobile menu leaves the tab order when closed, and focus returns predictably.
  • Converted action controls from placeholder links to real buttons — so they work with both Enter and Space.
  • Corrected ARIA roles, heading order, and landmark structure that automated scanners flag.

Honest footnote: automated tools like axe catch only part of WCAG — roughly a third to a half of all success criteria. Reaching zero automated violations is a milestone, not a finish line. The rest (meaningful alt text, logical reading order, screen-reader labeling) takes manual expertise — which is exactly what a real audit adds, and what we bring to your project.

Scope & conformance note

Viro Digital builds and remediates to WCAG 2.1 Level AA and Section 508 standards according to professional best practice at the time of delivery. Accessibility conformance is not a permanent, one-time state — it depends on future content, third-party tools, and evolving standards. We do not guarantee that a site will pass every automated scanner, satisfy every auditor, or be immune from legal claims. All work is governed by the scope agreed in your statement of work.
